Meet Kevin Johnson - Joel

Here are a few thoughts from episode 408 "Meet Kevin Johnson." First off, after watching this episode it seems more and more like Michael may be in the coffin from season 3. Not only is he trying to kill himself in this episode, but admits he's "here to die" when confronted by Sayid. I'm predicting that after he does his work of redeeming his past actions of killing the women in the hatch by saving the lost-aways he will then die. This resembles the pattern of the island with Mr. Echo. Why isn't there anyone at his funeral? Are his mom and Walt really that mad at him that they won't travel to LA to his funeral? I can see this is the weak part of the argument.

Tom, say it ain't so—with another man in the penthouse suite in New York? I guess this explains why he says at beginning of season three when Kate is changing in the locker room "Kate, you're not my type" (lost-tv.com). By the way I'm getting my quotes correct from now on. In addition, I thought it was interesting that the bodies from the planted 747 could be coming from graves in Thailand, or so Tom says.

Sad the see the French woman go…not my favorite character, but still sad. So who's doing the shooting at the end of the episode? The way I see it, it could be Ben's people or people from the freighter. Of course with Ben we get can see the motive. At the beginning of the episode I got the idea that Alex may be pregnant. The way she was looking at the Claire's baby and holding her stomach made me think so. Even if she isn't, we know Ben isn't a Carl or Rousseau fan. Ben would also know where they were because he drew the map. With the freighters motive is very hard to see. However, remember the errand that Frank Lapids was running for "the captain" it could be flying those two buff guys we met from the freighter to the island to do some exterminating. They seem to be the guerilla-shooting types. That's about all I have for now.

Very nice set up, Joel! I'm impressed by this new blog.

Since I have a few weeks before anything new happens, I'll take some time to play around before making any posts.

I agree with your thoughts on Michael. His involvement on the freighter is definitely to seek redemption and probably to make things right with Walt.

I will, however, disagree with the coffin though. Though my thoughts have wavered this season, I will stick with my Season 3 finale instinct - the coffin is for Ben. I still think he fits the profile for someone Jack learns to respect and understand, and Kate despises. In respect to timeline, it makes sense too given that we know Ben leaves the island (a largely unknown fact to the world) and has no family/friends. The coffin scene takes place some significant time after Jack leaves the island, since for a while he seems well-adapted before becoming an obsessive drunk. Furthermore, Sayid's backstory seemed to take place relatively soon after his rescue. I think this allows enough time for Ben to complete his work for Jacob and die...maybe his cancer comes back, who knows. So I'm staying with Ben on this matter, however, I welcome any intriguing storyline twist to disrupt this theory!

As for the deaths of Carl and Rousseau, I originally thought this was all Ben's work and it is the Others that capped them. However, that was a good pick-up on Frank's assignment. I'd missed that whole part and now it has me wondering if you're right. We'll see, yeah?

Good thought there with Ben in the coffin.

It seems like a pretty sound theory. Thinking back, the coffin even looks a little smallish, if you know what I mean.

Yes, the coffin does seem small, doesn't it? This will be a difficult argument to keep. Would the coffin fit Walt? A "Taller" Walt, at that?
To this I say, when Ben dies, he loses his legs - hence a shorter coffin. A stretch? Yes, but I must defend my claim even to the most ridiculous extremes!
